Ooh I love this book too. This is probably the one that first inspired me to write - the depth of description and emotion is just phenomenal. I see Stephen Lawhead had revamped his website - new stuff coming, how exciting!

I also love this series--it's one of those where the atmosphere, language, and imagery linger long after the plot has grown fuzzy in memory. The only one I didn't love was "Grail," but even with that, it's one of the best contributions to fantasy I've ever read, never mind Christian fantasy.

And up, my third book is coming out this year :).

What would a list of favorites be without a Lawhead title! So glad you picked this one, Phyllis.

I just checked out Marcher Lord Press, and I have to say, I am very excited. I'm new to this whole internet thing. My reading in the past has come from my church bookstore, or Christian Book Distributors. But I'm beginning to think eBooks and small niche publishers like MLP will be opening up a whole new world for me.

I was beginning to believe what Stephanie above said about Christian Fantasy, until I stumbled across VRIN: ten mortal gods. I don't know if it is a self published book or not, but the story was amazingly inventive and current. Why this book isn't published by Zondervan, Tyndale, or Navpress, I have no idea. When I was done reading it, I was left with two powerful emotions. The first was a sense of satisfaction, for having finished the kind of book I had wanted to read for quite a while. The second was a sense of betrayal toward the big Christian publishing houses for pushing out titles based on profitability. I gave VRIN to my sister and she was up till one in the morning ... and she is supposed to be the demographic for these publishers. Something doesn't click.

My daughter is 12 and was made to watch Twilight at school. She came home shaken, frightened, repulsed and desperately worried about the effect this film was having on one of her friends who now has a shrine to Edward in her bedroom. We just had to sit down together and pray, we had to ask GGod to in His mercy remove the images and sensations from her mind, heart and spirit. We asked Him to protect her. Since praying she hasn't mentioned it again once. But if you had seen the effect it hhad on her, you would maybe begin to consider that what the person Misty has been saying is actually really worth considering prayerfully. The enemy is not stupid, and he is for real. He will try and entice us to open ourselves up to him and his ways in any way imaginable, even through "harmless fiction".
